- What do you think are the reasons for the long and continuing success of Gregorian?
We approach each new album as if it were our first. We do not rely on old successes and want to keep getting better, but we continue to evolve without changing ourselves. With consistent quality we have earned a loyal audience. Our albums are getting better and our concert productions more elaborate and entertaining. Furthermore, Gregorian is still really unique.
- 10 years of Gregorian! What are some of the highlights?
Our numerous gold and platinum awards, an originally planned as a studio project band to bring about successful on the stages, 6 sold-out concerts at Kremlin Palace in Moscow, and: That we are still ...
- When you started Gregorian 10 years ago what has been the church's response? No resentments by the Church?
Not at all. The times of the clerical dictatorship or censorship are over. Resentment, from which side are, to me since the beginning of my career regardless. If anything, with Gregorian I feared more the resentment of the record companies. We do not make 3-minute radio pop hits.
From the churches, there has been, from the beginning, full approval. We made several tours through churches, Catholic and Protestant, and have always been received very favorably. Now the Vatican has taken a liking to us. We initially were invited as the only international act to the peace festival in Israel. At Christmas this year, we will play at the Vatican for the Pope.
- In this anniversary year, there is of course a new album. Which songs have made it onto the album?
There are songs by Supertramp, Kate Bush, Genesis, Abba, Guns & Roses, Depeche Mode, Led Zeppelin and also 3 new, own songs.
- Which song was most difficult to implement on this album?
We now have so much experience in the Gregorian Chant genre that there are no more problems with implementation. Previously, many titles were still "trial and error", now it actually works for every song. The hardest choice is actually the first songchoice before we go into the studio and then make the final selection, because we're recording more songs than will fit on one album.
- What distinguishes this album from its predecessors?
It's better!!! Seriously, we have this time less electronics and more "real" musicians recorded in the studio. The new album has become somewhat traditional and rocking.
- There will, of course, be a jubilee tour. What can the audience look forward to there?
In our shows we will present around 24 songs from all 9 albums. It is, as it were, a cross section of 10 Gregorian years, and thus actually a "best of" program. In addition, we have set ourselves a target visually impressive to accompany each song. It will be our most expensive show -so far really "great cinema" with many visual effects.
- What is the impact you have on the implementation of the stage performances?
I put together the program, I'm at all rehearsals and develop the design stage and all the special effects. The shows are designed, as I will myself would be entertained at a concert.
- What do you want to accomplish with the audience when they hear the music of Gregorian?
Bliss.
- Are there, even after 10 years with Gregorian, goals you want do with the music and put on tour?
We already have ideas for the next 3 album concepts outside of the Masters Of Chant series, which we will of course continue as well. Next year, we will first go on tour in Asia and beyond could still be one of my wildest dreams come true: One of the major hotels in Las Vegas has offered us a permanent installation, and we want also to address that next year.
